In Opera za tri groše, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s sharp-edged classic returns as a meeting point of drama, music and social satire. The production, directed by Mateja Koležnik and conducted by Marko Letonja, brings together the acting ensemble of SNG Drama Ljubljana with the choir and orchestra of SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana in the first co-production of the two national theatres.

Based on John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, with Elisabeth Hauptmann as collaborator, the piece turns poverty, corruption and bourgeois hypocrisy into a darkly seductive theatrical machine: witty, brutal, musical and still disquietingly current.

Premiere: 20 March 2025, SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana.
