Nesrečniki (Les Misérables) arrived at the 73rd Ljubljana Festival as an epic musical about justice, survival and redemption. On the open stage of Križanke, the Zagreb City Theatre Komedija production carried Victor Hugo’s world through intimate human encounters, crowded street scenes and the collective force of the barricades.
The musical, with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and the original French libretto by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, is one of the defining works of contemporary musical theatre. This Ljubljana Festival presentation was performed in Croatian with Slovenian surtitles, directed by Stanislav Moša and conducted by Dinko Appelt.
