The action unfolds in Verona (Italy) in the 13th century, and revolves around the political rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues. Juliet, who is the daughter of the head of the Capulets and engaged to Tybalt, is in love with Romeo, the firstborn of the Montagues. But the situation is even more complicated: even though he did not intend it, Romeo has killed Juliet’s brother in a fight.
