The Baltic Sea Philharmonic brought the 74th Ljubljana Festival to a close under conductor Robert Treviño, with Slovenian violinist Lana Trotovšek as soloist. The ensemble’s youthful energy and close communication shaped an evening that moved from the sounds of nature to Romantic lyricism and the broad horizons of Nordic symphonic music.
Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus, a concerto for birds and orchestra, opened a northern soundscape built around recorded birdsong. Bruch’s First Violin Concerto placed Trotovšek at the centre with its singing lines and passionate virtuosity, while Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony carried the evening towards its monumental final chords. The gallery moves between the soloist’s concentration, Treviño’s expressive direction, individual musicians and the collective presence of the orchestra.
