For their second evening at the 74th Ljubljana Festival, the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Antonio Pappano were joined by the Kaunas State Choir, soprano Maria Bengtsson and contralto Noa Beinart. Together they performed Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Resurrection, in Gallus Hall.

Mahler’s vast score moves from the weight of its opening funeral march through moments of tenderness and searching reflection towards a choral finale concerned with life, death and transcendence. The gallery brings the monumental forces into focus through individual players, instrumental details, the two solo voices and Pappano’s direction, before returning to the full scale of orchestra, choir and audience.

Performance: 3 September 2026, Gallus Hall, Cankarjev dom, 74th Ljubljana Festival.
