The London Symphony Orchestra returned to the 74th Ljubljana Festival with its chief conductor Sir Antonio Pappano and pianist Bruce Liu, winner of the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition. Their first Ljubljana evening paired Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor with Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor.
Beethoven’s concerto placed the piano in an intense dialogue with the orchestra, moving between dramatic tension and inward lyricism. Bruckner’s unfinished final symphony opened a different sound world: expansive architecture, bold harmonic contrasts and a profound spiritual dimension. The photographs follow that passage from the concentration of the soloist to Pappano’s expressive gestures and the collective focus of the orchestral players.
Performance: 2 September 2026, Gallus Hall, Cankarjev dom, 74th Ljubljana Festival.
